//Proof breaches knowledge gap for cyber security body

the missiontm Agency Proof Communication is continuing its innovative and creative work for science and technology Clients by working with ISC(2), the largest not-for-profit body of certified cyber, information, software and infrastructure security professionals worldwide, with almost 110,000 members.

Challenge

Information assurance is a major issue. Most people nowadays are aware of general terms such as cyber-crime and how damaging data breaches can affect governments, businesses or other organisations. But awareness is only half the battle – there exists a significant knowledge gap, because the technicality and language of information assurance is often so complex.

The overarching remit of Proof’s work with ISC(2) is to translate the complex work that the organisation does into stories that are attractive to national journalists and which raise awareness of cyber security issues to a mass audience.

Solution

With a need to give technology journalists stories with resonance to their readerships, Proof’s approach has been to break down the complex technological issues and translate into language and themes more easily understood by the general reader.

Proof developed several creative campaigns, including a thought leadership campaign entitled “The Broken Talent Pipeline”. The campaign positioned ISC(2) at the forefront of the debate over the cyber security skills gap, where just 0.6 per cent of Computer Science graduates are in cyber security-related roles.

Results

The Broken Talent Pipeline campaign saw Proof secure full-page features in the Financial Times, The Times and The Daily Telegraph, along with prominent inclusion in a large feature in The Times Higher Education Supplement.

Over the first 12 months of working with ISC(2), Proof secured 17 pieces of national media coverage, including BBC Breakfast, Guardian, Times, Telegraph, Financial Times, Daily Mail and The London Evening Standard.
